Minutes
from
General PTA Meeting
March 11, 2008
The meeting was
opened by Ms. Dollinger with a prayer.
Diane Hogan/ PTA President
Secretary’s Report – Posted on the school web-site.
Motion for approval by Mrs. Grassi and Mr. Beck, and the report was approved.
Treasurer’s Report – given by Maria Mulville
A detailed paper
report was passed around. So far, we have made just under
$21,000. The 1 in 40 club has already
sold 30 tickets. The golf tournament
will be held on April 25th.
Maria asked if there were any questions. No questions were asked.
She also reported that we have sold $150,000 in scrip which means we
have made $7,500 thus far which is 5%.
There will be another Great Lakes Scrip order form going out this
week. This is the gift card order form
that was sent around at Christmas time. Motion for approval by John Gray and
Donna Kanya, and the report was approved.
Diane then welcomed
all. She reminded everyone to see Maria
after the meeting to pick up your coupon(s) for the alternate dress reward for
attending tonight.
Seder Meal – March 19th
Donna Kanya will be
helping Ms. Dollinger with this. Your
class rep will be contacting you for donated items. Please help out. Also, several
lamb cake pans have wandered off from the PTA closet from last year. Apparently the shepherd wasn’t keeping watch
over his sheep. If you made a cake last year, and did not
return it, please do so preferably AFTER you have made another cake for this
year!
Father/Daughter
Dance –
date changed to April 11th.
Nun Plunge – Valarie Sorensen
will chair this. Date is April 19th.
Golf Tournament – Flyers for this
event are available tonight at the meeting.
1 in 40 Club – June 13th
is the date for the “party.” Tickets
are on sale now. The prizes are as
follows: $10,000, $2,000, and eight $1,000 prizes. If we do not sell all 400 tickets, then the prizes will be a
percentage of the total sold.
Bowling Night – Frank Zilinek is
working on this. The date is TBA. It should run about $10/pers. with no more
than 6 persons per lane. Information
will go home when all the details have been worked out.
Diane reminded us
that board elections will be coming up soon.
Your nomination ballots will have “job descriptions” of the various
positions that are up for election. The
board meets the first Wednesday of every month at 7pm. All parents are invited to attend. You do not have to be on the board to attend
a PTA board meeting. Come out and see
what it is all about!
The meeting broke
for a talk by Temerity Berry followed by a talk by Nurse Ann.
General Notes ………..
Temerity works for the Cape
Assist Program located in Cape May County. The subject of Temerity’s talk was
about drugs in NJ. Did you know that
the heroin sold in NJ is 70-90% pure?
It is important to talk to your child NOW about drugs and alcohol.
Nurse Ann gave out a
pamphlet on the health screening that she is conducting at our school. Every child is being checked for vision,
hearing, height, weight, and BMI. Scoliosis
checks are being done for grades 5 and 7.
BMI was explained to us as a screening tool to find who is at risk for
being under weight or over weight. The goal of the CDC with BMI is to develop
healthy lifestyles.
Joan Dollinger/
Principal
Joan thanked
Temerity and Nurse Ann for speaking to us.
She reminded us about the programs available at our school: DARE which
is run by Officer Tony, REBEL which is run by Cape Assist, and Mr. Fair also
teaches health in addition to PE class.
She then thanked all for coming.
The coupon for alternate dress can be
used any day EXCEPT on a day when the students are going to Mass. Next year we are going to give out coupons
for alternate dress on the students’ birthdays. Weekend birthdays will be used on a Mon. or Fri. and summer
birthdays will be on half-birthdays.
All for the Girls Night was great and
raised $5,000. Catholic Schools Week
events went well, and the Basketball Dinner was a good way to end the
season. Thanks went out to Bill Gray
for running the basketball program, and to John Gray for running the kitchen.
Vowac, Singapore Math, and Study Island
programs are going well. All teachers
have at least one subject available to them to post on Churchwerks with the
exception of grades K, 1st, and 2nd because their new
report cards. Attendance is taken every
day on it. Parent Reach is a new
automatic calling system that calls parents to remind them of important school
events. The Star 2 program is looking
for ways to expand, and the children are enjoying their prayer partners - which
is another new program this year.
It was a journey last year. We blended our communities. Everyone worked hard, and it wasn’t always
easy, but all should be proud.
Easter break is soon, and the students
should report back to school on March 31st. April and May should be solid “work” months.
The Student Council’s alternate dress
days filled the pantry for the Holy Redeemer Sisters. The last day to collect canned goods is March 17th.
The 8th grade Living Stations
will be on Tues. March 18th.
Our Seder Meal held the Wed. before we
break will remind us how Jesus gathered with his disciples at the Passover meal
before he died.
Ms. Dollinger
thanked everyone for their support.
The meeting
adjourned @ 8:25pm.
